Mexico Chiapas ~ The Teopisca community is centrally located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, a highland indigenous community in the highland area Sierra Madre de Chiapas. This coffee was purchased through Unión de Cafeticultores del Norte de Chiapas ("UCONOCH" for short), a coffee cooperative who provide farmers with technical assistance and training with a goal of certification in order to obtain a better price for their coffee. There are roughly 2200 coop members, and membership sees about an even split between men and women. Most farmers are growing a mix of coffee cultivars, such as Bourbon, Caturra, Marsallesa, and Typica, and the altitude in Teopisca tops out at 1700 meters above sea level.
